Square Apple Pie

Square Apple Pie

A bit late for Thanksgiving Day, but not the rest of the holiday weekend, the other end of the year holidays or any other time you're in the mood for a tasty apple pie that is incredibly easy to make. This apple version is baked in a rectangular dish with only a top crust for easy baking consistency. Apples are one of our top cancer-fighting foods with good reason. They’re a good source of fiber and the antioxidant, quercetin, a flavonoid being studied for its anti-inflammatory properties. A combination of healthful spices, whole-wheat flour (or healthier coconut flour if you want to make your own crust) and less and healthier sugar and butter makes it a delicious take on a traditionally decadent dessert.

Pomegranate Apple Cranberry Relish

Pomegranate Apple Cranberry Relish

Adding a simple twist to classic dishes can really give your holiday meal an appealing boost! Take cranberry relish for instance. Cranberries do not have to be cooked down to preserve consistency. Yes, they’re hard and tart, but they are also little balls of potential and antioxidants - if not cooked away - just waiting to be discovered.

Roasted Honey Dijon Brussels Sprouts Over Mashed Cauliflower

Roasted Honey Dijon Brussels Sprouts Over Mashed Cauliflower

Many people are not too fond of super healthy Brussels sprouts (a member of the anti-cancer cruciferous vegetables family). If that includes you, this recipe - which calls for roasting the Brussels sprouts - may very well change your mind. When introduced to higher heat and a bit of extra virgin olive oil, sprouts take on a nutty flavor and the outer leaves get blissfully crispy.

And if that doesn’t sound appealing enough, how about tossing them into a pan with dijon mustard, honey and pancetta? Then on top of that, add a killer base of creamy mashed cauliflower (yet another super healthy cruciferous vegetable) to hold the pile of sublime sprouts and you have a super healthy, super tasty winner! (If you’ve never tried mashed cauliflower before, you will be shocked - they taste just like mashed potatoes.)

The Four Horsemen of the Modern Health Apocalypse

The Four Horsemen of the Modern Health Apocalypse

A dark plague has crept across the land, operating largely in shadow for generations and set upon us by an evil master whose footsteps have fouled the earth for as long as man has walked upon it.  Led by four evil horsemen who have been corrupted and enslaved by the master, the plague has cast its shadowy tentacles from sea to sea through towns and cities large and small, sparing no one. Almost no location has proven remote enough to escape it’s reach and it has visited death, illness and suffering on young and old alike.

Use Carrot Poultices for Sore Throats, Colds, the Flu, Tonsillitis, Swelling and More

(The Best Years in Life) A carrot poultice is a compress made from carrots. It is used to draw toxins from the body, usually the neck area. Carrots have a cleaning action on the lymph glands, and a poultice is an easy way to focus that healing energy to the glands in the neck. A carrot poultice can speed recovery from a sore throat or swollen glands. Children love carrot poultices, as they are non-invasive and they find them very soothing. Read More.

On the one hand, "drugs" are illegal substances, associated with addiction, bodily harm, crime, and other unpleasant experiences. Healthy Holiday Recipes

(The Best Years in Life) The end of the year holiday season is right around the corner - Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. For many of us, these holidays are a time for feasting. However, that feasting usually comes far too much sugar (particularly refined sugar), calories and other ingredients that are less than healthy. This year, plan much healthier holiday spreads with these healthy (or at least healthier) recipes. Of course, you should still try to watch your calories and be careful to not overdo the desserts.

Buy Organic for Real Food Value

Buy Organic for Real Food Value

(The Best Years in LifeOrganic food is now the fastest growing segment of U.S. agriculture. In 2012, the value of retail sales from organic food was estimated at more than $27 billion. Sales of organic fruits and vegetables are continuing to grow at double digit rates, making it one of the fastest growing sectors in the U.S. economy. Red Clover Blocks Damage from MSG

Red Clover Blocks Damage from MSG
By Barbara Minton

(The Best Years in Life) You've probably been reading about the hazards of excitotoxins. One of the most deadly of this group is neurotoxic monosodium glutamate (MSG), found in many processed foods and used heavily by almost all restaurants. So what can you do when friends or family want to eat out and this knowledge can spoil the fun? A recent study has found that pre-treating yourself with a supplement of red clover (Trifolium pratense) before eating food laced with this neurotoxin can block damage from MSG. This is good news indeed.

Granny's Gluten-Free Healthy & Delicious Fruit Cake

Granny's Gluten-Free Healthy & Delicious Fruit Cake
This delicious recipe comes courtesy of my good friend at FaceBook, Granny Good-Food (with the the wheat flour being substituted for with coconut flour or gluten-free all purpose flour).

Says Granny: "I am the one who LOVES fruitcake! But it is so expensive and really hard to find a good one (I see those knowing smiles), plus it takes forever to ripen and soak up all the brandy or rum or whatever alcohol is used, and I'm not too keen on that flavor. Maybe I don't love the fruitcake so much as the fruit and nuts? (Hey, I "am" from California, remember).

"So what to do? Make my own. "

Which she did by taking a basic carrot cake recipe and loading it up with 3 kinds of nuts, 3 kinds of seeds, dried fruit. and no sugar.

Savory Gluten Free Olive Bread

Savory Gluten Free Olive Bread

This colorful, delicious and super healthy gluten free bread is very rich and very dense and literally packed with veggies.  With briney olives and roasted peppers, the flavors are wonderfully tangy without being too overwhelming. Spinach gives the bread a bit of earthiness and there is also a hint of sweetness from the dough itself. A great accompaniment for chowders, soups, stews and other dishes, some may even want to use it as a very hearty breakfast bread (and a great way to sneak in some early morning veggies). Additionally, this bread recipe should translate wonderfully into muffins or mini loaves, perfect for freezing.

A Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol

A Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol
by Tony Isaacs
author of Cancer's Natural Enemy
Modern medicine treats the body as a collection of parts instead of as a synergistic organism.  When it comes to treating broken bones and injured body parts, mainstream Western medicine is unequaled.  When this same approach is used to treat illness and disease - fixing or repairing the parts where the symptoms of underlying illnesses manifest themselves, modern medicine fails miserably.

Whereas modern medicine looks at cancer as primarily a genetic disorder, when in actuality it is more an immune disorder.  Cancer is a cell proliferative disease where cells go into an altered mode where they refuse to die normal programmed cell death and multiply - which happens as a result of an impaired immune system together with poor cellular terrain (created from under-nourished, under-cleansed and under-hydrated cells) and exposure to toxins, radiation or other sources of prolonged irritation and inflammation.

Instead of addressing the causes of cancer - primarily toxins and a weakened immune system which result in a loss of proper cellular communication and oxidation and the cells mutating to cells that replicate without dying -  we see instead mainstream treatments that either slash, burn or poison away the tumors and cancer cells, which further weakens an immune system cancer has already defeated and only worsens the conditions that led to cancer to begin with.

As a result, the way is paved for the return of the cancer or the introduction of another cancer or serious condition.  Even worse, the road to further illness is often made easier due to the damage to the immune system and major organs caused by the treatment of the symptom.

Nature, on the other hand, gives us an array of tools to beat cancer and the underlying causes that lead to cancer, including foods, vitamins, minerals, supplements and lifestyle choices.  The key is not merely addressing the tumors and cancer cells that are the symptoms of cancer, but but addressing and eliminating the root causes that led to cancer to begin with and prevent it from being eliminated.  Read More.
